Fritz, a former police dog, enjoyed chewing on rocks. This activity wore Fritz's teeth down, much to the frustration of his owner Jack Markham. One day Jack Markham noticed Fritz dining on rocks again. He began to try to coax Fritz away from the rocks with other objects. Fritz went ecstatic over a suspension part from his Volkswagen. Fritz did not realize his joy over the suspension part would give birth to the Kong. The Kong is now recognized as a leader in dog toys.
