Cataracts- A New Cure?

Medical Treatment or Surgery

OcluVet Eye Drops is an exciting new product surrounded by controversy. Depending on the outcome of this argument, the method of treatment of cataracts may be about to completely change.

With age, disease, or trauma, the proteins in the eye lens are damaged and changed, allowing them to “clump” together. This clumping of damaged proteins is what is recognized as a cataract. The cataract keeps an otherwise healthy eye from being able to see.

Traditionally, the only treatment has been surgery, which involves removing the cataract and replacing the lens. OcluVet Eye Drops are reported to change the proteins in the eyes back to their original state. The OcluVet formula was designed to target the reactions that lead to the formation of damaged proteins and provide the nutrients needed to repair the altered amino residues and oxidation to allow the proteins to return to their healthy state.

Two clinical trials have been completed to test the OcluVet formulation in patients with lens opacities ranging from lenticular sclerosis to hypermature cataract. In a multi-veterinary hospital clinical study of cataract and lenticular sclerosis conditions in several animal species, 83% showed a measurable reduction in opacity and/or improved vision. Administration of one drop per eye TID was given for 8 weeks followed by a one drop per day administration for maintenance.

Depending on the severity of your pet's condition, the changes you see may be very subtle.  During the first few weeks of application, you may notice the eye to appear smoother and/or brighter although the opacity is still present. Between 6 and 8 weeks (if not sooner), you should notice your pet navigating more accurately (i.e. moving around furniture, catching treats, chasing a ball, moving around at night or in the dark, etc.).

While two independent studies and many positive testimonials show excellent results, many medical personal still are questioning the results. Any treatment that goes against conventional treatment must prove itself in multiple studies. Cataract surgery may soon become a treatment of the past and  OcluVet Eye Drops may become the treatment of choice.
