Azodyl and Kidney Disease

Improved Management of Kidney Disease

Kidney failure is a common problem in older cats and dogs. As your pet's kidneys begin to fail, the blood urea nitrogen, or BUN, (waste products produced by the body) begins to raise. The body tries to eliminate some of these waste products by dumping it into the digestive system. However, this system soon becomes saturated and the BUN continues to rise. The raise in the BUN causes the kidneys to work harder causing further damage. Soon a vicious cycle is established eventually resulting in total renal failure and death.

Traditionally, it has been difficult to bring the BUN back to normal and maintain kidney function. Azodyl has provided a new tool for resolving kidney failure. Azodyl is a bacteria compound that consumes or eliminates urea products in the bowel. As the urea products are consumed, the body is able to dump more urea into the bowel. The continual use of Azodyl creates a channel by which urea waste is efficiently eliminated from the body. As the urea waste is eliminated, the BUN goes down and the pressure on your pet's impaired kidneys is reduced. Azodyl offers increased hope for these patients. Azodyl can be used with other forms of treatment for renal failure.
